Nostr WoT App Support

Help with the Nostr WoT app for iPhone: common questions, how to reach us, how to report a bug and how to delete your data.

What to include in a report

To help us reproduce a problem, include:

  • The app version and build, shown at the bottom of Settings, for example 1.0.0 (42)
  • Your iOS version
  • Your iPhone model
  • The language the app is set to
  • What you did, what you expected and what happened instead, with screenshots if they help

Never send your seed phrase, private key (nsec), password or PIN to us or to anyone else. We will never ask for them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create or import an account?

On first launch, create a new identity or import one from an nsec, a seed phrase or an encrypted backup, then set a password or a PIN to protect the vault. You can add more accounts later from the Accounts screen.

How do I back up my keys?

Write down your seed phrase when the app shows it and keep it somewhere safe and offline. You can also export your keys from the security settings. Your seed phrase is the only way to recover your accounts if you lose your phone or forget your password.

How do I sign in to a Nostr app on the web or my computer?

In that app, choose to log in with a remote signer (NIP-46, sometimes called bunker or nostrconnect). In Nostr WoT, open remote signing and scan the code it shows, or paste it, then approve the request on your phone. Requests travel over the relays set in Settings > Remote signing relays.

Can other apps on my iPhone use Nostr WoT to sign?

Yes, if they support it. They offer a "Sign with Nostr WoT" action, which shows you the request and signs only after you approve it. This extension never connects to the network.

What is the local network bridge?

It lets a paired computer on the same network send requests to the app directly, without relays. Switch it on in the app when you need it: it is off by default and does not stay on between launches. iOS asks for permission to use the local network the first time.

How do I control what an app may sign?

Each connected app has rules for each kind of request: always allow, ask, or deny. You can review and change them in the app's permissions, and the activity log shows what was signed.

Which wallet options are there?

Three: connect your own wallet with Nostr Wallet Connect ("Your own wallet"), use the self-custodial wallet built on the Breez SDK and Spark ("Self-custodial"), or use the hosted wallet we operate ("Held by us"). Payments ask for your approval unless you set a limit for an app.

What should I know about the hosted wallet?

It is the quickest to set up and gives you a Lightning address ([email protected]), but it is custodial: we hold the balance. Keep only small amounts in it. To hold your own funds, use the self-custodial wallet or connect your own wallet.

How do I use Tor?

Turn on Tor in the app's network settings. Relays, remote signing, wallet requests and images then go through Tor, which is built into the app. The local network bridge and the self-custodial wallet do not use Tor, and connections can be slower while it is on.

What does the Archive do?

It keeps an encrypted copy of your own signed events on your phone, one database per account, and can copy them to relays you choose. You can also export it to a password-protected file and import it again later.

I forgot my password or PIN. Can you reset it?

No. We never have your password, PIN or keys, so we cannot reset or recover them. On the unlock screen, "Forgot password?" lets you reset the vault, which deletes everything on the phone; you can then import your accounts again from your seed phrase.

How do I move to a new iPhone?

Install the app on the new phone and import your accounts with your seed phrase or an encrypted backup. A PIN only works on the phone where you set it, so choose a new one. You can import an exported Archive file too.

Deleting your data

Everything the app knows about you is on your phone, except the hosted wallet if you use it.

  • One account: Remove it from the Accounts screen.
  • Everything on this phone: Use "Delete all data" in Settings. It erases the vault, every account, permissions, pairings, the Archive and wallet data. Back up your seed phrase first.
  • Hosted wallet: "Delete all data" asks you separately whether to delete your hosted wallet on our server too: your Lightning address, app connections, wallet and payment history. Move any balance out first.
  • Nostr relays: Events you published are stored on relays we do not operate. Relays may honour a deletion request, but none can be guaranteed.

If you no longer have the app and want your hosted wallet deleted, or have a question about your data, write to us through the contact form.
